About us

Engineering enterprise SAM - SHIPBUILDING AND MACHINERY a.s.  is a qualified manufacturer of machinery and other engineering products. We export most our products to EU countries. The company operates facilities in Komárno, Bratislava and Liptovský Mikuláš. We maintain a quality management system certified by the TÜV certification organisation and other authorisations documenting the human resources and technological competencies needed to manufacture technically complex products for various industrial sectors.

The company uses an integrated SAP R3 information system to support its activities.

The Bratislava facility is responsible for the qualified production of all models of pressure vessels with experience dating back to 1960. The facility focuses on the manufacture, repair and assembly of equipment for the chemical, power, gas and food industries, the delivery of steel structures and turnkey projects as well as the repair and maintenance of large capacity tanks.

The Komárno facility has engaged in shipbuilding with a history dating back to 1898, with present operations under the supervision of various certification companies; it also manufactures welded and steel components for construction equipment and vehicles, including chassis frames, beams, girders, pylons and the manufacturing of engineering components for cutting tables used in ecological waste processing.

    Shipbuilding and heavy steel structures

    The division focuses on

    1. Shipbuilding:
      • Shipbuilding activities are conducted under the supervision of classification organisations including BureauVeritas, DNV.GL, the Russian Maritime Register and others. Ships are primarily built under cover in production halls equipped with cranes rated for up to 50 t. Finished ships are then launched using a shiplift rated for up to 3,000 tonnes. Production facilities are sufficient to support the parallel construction of 9 hulls with maximum dimensions of up to 120 m long and 20 m wide.
      • Design documentation is largely secured externally in cooperation with division technicians. Division technicians also secure the creation of cutting programs for cutting out ship components and components for steel structures.

    Welded structures

    In addition to shipbuilding and the production of heavy steel structures, the production of welded and machined steel components represents a major part of the production division’s activities in Komárno. We manufacture these components based on provided project documentation, primarily in individual and small series volumes. A large portion of our products is exported to the countries of Western Europe and delivered to renowned transnational countries with a global presence.

  • Manufacturing and assembly

    Manufacturing and assembly

    The manufacturing and assembly division plays a major role in the completion of investment projects and the production of finished products, complete with surface treatment, for customers in the chemical, petrochemical, gas, power and food industries. Manufacturing is completed per the customer’s approved documentation or an in-house design approved by the customer. Activities include the assembly of in-hour products, the assembly of investments, disassembly and assembly work involved in repairs. A protocol issued by a representative of inspection organisations, i.e. TI SR, TÜV, ASME, and accompanying documents are integral components of approval and the handover of products.

    Maintenance and repairs

    Maintenance and repairs are included in the comprehensive portfolio of products and services that SAM – SHIPBUILDING AND MACHINERY a.s. can deliver to its customers. Internal capacities and support from qualified company employees are used to repair heat exchangers, pressure vessels, columns and tanks, repair and refurbish technical equipment, repair piping systems and their accessories and perform defectoscopy and diagnostic work. Activities include general overhauls per pre-defined and approved customer specifications.

    We are able to implement the most demanding investment projects thanks to the technology we possess and our in-house facilities, supported by the experience and professionalism of our employees, and primarily the fact that we possess a group of project managers who conduct the management and coordination of human and materials resources throughout the course of the project with professionalism and experience and while applying modern techniques and methods for planning projects and managing their implementation to achieve the pre-defined objectives in the required scope, cost, time, quality and to the satisfaction of project stakeholders.

    Water treatment technologies

    The WET department in Liptovský Mikuláš provides design works, engineering activities and contracting services in the field of water and environmental technology for industry. Department staff average more than 20 years of experience in water treatment.

    The WET – Water & Environmental Technology department was established in 2013 as the successor to the Siemens Water Technology (WT) department in Slovak Republic which had been active in the country since 2005. Staff specialisation dates to 1997 at which point employees were a part of a Slovak company involved with water and wastewater technology. We use our long-term and in-house know-how and BAT (Best Available Technology) from renowned global suppliers in the fields with which we collaborate to resolve the needs of our customers.
